Topher Grace Doesn’t Think he’ll be Venom Again

According to Topher Grace, who played the human version of Venom in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3”, he isn’t sure if he’ll ever play Venom again. Or at least, no one has talked to him about it. Movieweb caught up with the actor while he was on the set of the Robert Rodriguez-produced “Predators”, where quite the many web bloggers were over the weekend. Here’s what Grace said in response to the question about “Venom”.

“Um, I don’t know? You know, I guess. I don’t know, I haven’t heard anything. No, I don’t think so.”

Actors, they’re always the last to know, right? Anyways, I don’t think the character will be missing much. I liked Grace as the skinny neighbor kid on “That ’70’s Show”, but let’s face it, he just didn’t work out very well as Eddie Brock aka Venom. Then again, there were just so many villains in that movie, that ol Brock didn’t really get a whole lot of character development, so maybe Grace, given half a chance, could actually kill in the role. I guess we’ll never know.

Uber producer Avi Arad is still plugging along with a “Venom” spin-off movie, and last we heard, “Seabiscuit” writer/director Gary Ross was the latest bigshoot Hollywod scribe to turn in a draft. He was also supposed to direct, but word is he might have left the project to do “Matt Helm”.

Which leaves Venom hanging from his gooey black webbing, waiting for a script and a director, and someone to tuck him in at nights. Poor wittle baby.

Damn, that skinny kid from That '70s Show is stronger than he looks!
