The look of the original Toy Story still holds up remarkably well in spite of its age (which is ancient by CG standards), but it’s amazing to see how far Toy Story 3 has come. It’s like playing Xbox 360 now and looking back at the Playstation games, which used to seem so incredible, with the realization that it all looks so hideous. One feels a little wiser and more perceptive in reflection. Likewise, you can see the immediate improvements brought to Toy Story 3. The toys look a little shinier and have quite a bit more detail, but the human characters especially seem to have an extra dimension to them and no longer look like mannequins.
The trailer, which you can see below (via The Film Stage, where you can also find high res pictures), is currently playing in front of the Toy Story and Toy Story 2 3D double feature. The only plot so far is that Andy has grown too big for his toys: none of them were harmed in the making of this film, apparently, because no toys ever seem to be thrown away. They are simply pawned off to younger children. Toy Story 3 is currently scheduled to be released on June 18th, 2010.
