Nicolas Winding Refn has been working for a while now, but it wasn’t until “Drive” that he really got noticed. That movie blew my mind into tiny little bits, and apparently a lot of other people’s as well considering how much hardware it was nominated for. The “Pusher” trilogy is where Refn originally cut his teeth, having written and directed all three parts. You’d think with his current cache, Hollywood would be beating down his doors to remake his films. Turns out, the UK beat us to it. Check out the first trailer and a handful of images from director Luis Prieto’s remake of “Pusher”. I’ve never seen the original films, so I can’t compare the two versions, but it apparently has Refn’s stamp of approval, since he’s credited as an executive producer.
Based on the edgy and explosive series by visionary director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Pusher stars Richard Coyle as a drug dealer who grows increasingly desperate over the course of a week after a botched deal lands him in the merciless clutches of a ruthless crime lord. The more desperate his behavior, the more isolated he becomes until there is nothing left standing between him and the bullet his debtors intend to fire his way.
Starring Richard Coyle, Bronson Webb, Agyness Deyn, Mem Ferda, Zlatko Buric and Paul Kaye.
The UK gets the film first on October 12th, but no word on a Stateside release date as of this writing.
