Trailer Debut: Bruce Willis Cracks Jokes and Shoots People in Red

Summit has finally released the first trailer for Bruce Willis’s “Red” (via Yahoo), the action movie based on the comic book by Warren Ellis. It looks like the movie version of “Red” is absolutely nothing like the comic, so if that’s what you were hoping for, you can stop holding your breath now. Hollywood has done what it always does — it takes the basic premise and ignored everything else. Basically, a bunch of old fogies who used to be CIA killers must take on some whipper snappers trying to silence them. And Mary Louise Parker gets involved somehow, probably selling weed or such.

Frank, Joe, Marvin, and Victoria used to be the CIA’s top agents — but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.

Starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Julian McMahon, James Remar, Ernest Borgnine, Michelle Nolden, and directed by Robert Schwentke.

This looks better than I was thinking. Once I heard they were injecting comedy into this I was like “Oh No!,” but this looks fun. Great cast, gonna have some good action, and Morgan Freeman as a badass!! I'm there! Oh wait did I mention Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich get to play badasses too? No? They Do! ANd it ROCKS! They've changed some stuff but there's alot that's intact from the comic which was bare bones at best. It was basically just action. This looks to inject a little more character and fun into it.

If they had gone a more serious route, I woulda put Ed Harris in the part of Frank Moses.

I guess they didn't really have much of a choice: either go full-bore campy action or go down-and-dirty bleak where everyone dies at the end. It is a bit overly silly, though.

Yeah but with the cast it actually works. Normally I'd be like this is just silly but I like this. The comic as good as it is, was rather short on plot, and character so I'm happy to see they built on what was there, but added to it. Although I'd have loved to see an Ed Harris version all dark, dirty, and superviolent.

It's actually very ironic: the original comics left me wanting to take a shower after I had finished it to wash off the dirt and grime, but the movie will be the exact opposite. Go figure.

LOL. Yeah. Between the violence, and the utterly messed up way the CIA was doing things it did make you feel dirty. It also made me want more. I wanted to know more about dude's past, and of course how it plays out. I mean yeah it's obvious but then again after everything dude just did, I wouldn't be surprised if Moses made it out alive somehow.
