It’s been a while since I’ve read a Stephen King story, but I do remember really digging (no pun intended) his “Dolan’s Cadillac” short story, which is told from the perspective of a man who has orchestrated an elaborate revenge plot against a Las Vegas mobster responsible for murdering his wife. The film version keeps that basic plot, but lengthens the beginning, showing why the wife was murdered, and then leading to the revenge part. Okay, it basically gives you a plot-by-plot breakdown of the entire movie, including what must be the Third Act. Basically, it spoils the whole movie for ya. Oh well.
A dark revenge tale about Las Vegas middle school science teacher (Robinson) whose beloved wife (Elizabeth) witnesses an execution in the desert and is then targeted for death by the mobster who committed it, notorious Vegas crime lord Jimmy Dolan. Dolan’s vast wealth stems from his human trafficking operations. Dolan succeeds in having Elizabeth killed before she can testify against him. Without a witness to the murders, Dolan goes free, and Robinson must avenge Elizabeth’s death on his own.
Starring Christian Slater, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Wes Bentley, Robert Benz, Darla Biccum, Greg Bryk, Melany Burant, Simon Chin, and Amy Matysio. Jeff Beesley directs.
There’s no release date for “Dolan’s Cadillac”, but you’re probably looking at a direct-to-DVD release here, which may be for the best. This thing doesn’t look all that good, which is too bad, because this had the makings of a pretty intense thriller.
