Though the film seems to be something of an enigma, there is now a trailer floating around for Will Ferrell’s Spanish-language comedy “Casa de mi Padre”. There will be slaps, special effects, guns, sex, romance, and cigarettes. The whole thing has a very telenovela feel to it, and I for one think the exaggerated melodrama is an excellent fit for Ferrell’s over-the-top style of comedy. My favorite bit in the trailer is when he threatens to “beat you with these fists”.
In addition to Ferrell, “Casa de mi Padre” reunites Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, with former “Saturday Night Live” writer Matt Piedmont at the helm.
Here is a synopsis:
Armando Alvarez (Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Luna), shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).
