When you direct a movie with a title like “Trollhunter” it isn’t a huge jump to imagine directing something called “Carpe Demon: The Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom”. I can see some correlation. And that is exactly what Andre Overdal is going to do.
“Carpe Demon”, which also happens to be the name of an episode of “Charmed” (don’t ask me how I know that), is based on a novel by Julie Kenner, part of the “Kate Connor, Demon Hunter” series. You get a good idea of what the story is all about from the title, the major points anyway, but the tagline is pretty good: “Carpools. Crabgrass. Creatures from the depths of hell. Suburbia has its problems too…”
Here’s what Barnes and Noble has to say about the book:
Lots of women put their careers aside once the kids come along. Kate Connor, for instance, hasn’t hunted a demon in ages.
That must be why she missed the one wandering through the pet food aisle of the San Diablo Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, he managed to catch her attention an hour later-when he crashed into the Connor house, intent on killing her.
Now Kate has to clean up the mess in her kitchen, dispose of a dead demon, and pull together a dinner party that will get her husband elected to County Attorney-all without arousing her family’s suspicion. Worse yet, it seems the dead demon didn’t come alone…
It’s time for Kate Connor to go back to work.
1492 Pictures will produce “Carpe Demon”. From that description, this sounds like a nice fit for Ovredal. “Trollhuter” worked as a scary movie as well as a comedy, and this fits in that same realm: balancing scares and laughs. There is no word yet on cast, crew, writers, that sort of thing.
