I’m dying to see M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth”. I know, the dude has been really hit and miss lately (with lots of misses, okay, I get it), but he’s still a pretty talented guy, and you can’t go wrong with a Smith trying to save the world, even if it is the lesser Smith. Also, I love the idea that Earth is now so dangerous, just crashing on the planet elicits a “Holy crap we just crashed on Earth now we’re all gonna die!” reaction. But maybe that’s just me.
So check out the first TV spot for “After Earth”, which manages to flash some new footage in the quickie 30-seconds. Not a lot, mind you, but you do get to see Smith Jr. battling some wild animals. That’s kinda cool. And oh, I could be wrong, but I think that’s the big bad alien that crashed on the planet along with the Smiths pictured above.
In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai. When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
Starring Will Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jaden Smith, Zoë Kravitz, and Sophie Okonedo.
