Yes, says the Acting Auditions blog, which lists upcoming auditions for movies and TV shows. According to the blog, Summit Entertainment is planning to shoot not one, but two “Twilight” sequels back-to-back in order to save on the cost of production. The first sequel we already know will be based on the Stephenie Meyer book “New Moon”, and since “Eclipse” is the third book in the series, it would only make sense that it would be the third installment in the movie franchise. If true, this isn’t really much of a surprise. We already know that the “Twilight” stars got a huge pay raise (could that have been for both movies?), and shooting movies back-to-back makes sense from a financial standpoint.
Via Acting Auditions:
Summit Entertainment has started preparing the sequel New Moon, based on Stephenie Meyer’s second book in the series, and to contain costs, the studio is filming the third book, Eclipse, back to back using the same new director. On Sunday, December 7th, Summit Entertainment confirmed that Catherine Hardwicke will not direct the films New Moon or Eclipse. Filming begins on New Moon in March, 2009, and will continue right through completion of Eclipse.
The first sequel “New Moon” will introduce a love triangle into the ongoing romance of Bella and her vampire beau Edward in the form of a werewolf, while “Eclipse” forces werewolf boy and vampire boy to team up to protect Bella from yet another supernatural force. I’m guessing a lot of teen angst stuff and much meditations on love and what-have-you takes place in-between. Couldn’t they just sit down and watch MTV together? Isn’t that what kids do nowadays? Anyhoo.
As previously reported, “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke won’t be returning for the sequel(s), so Summit is currently looking for a new director. And actors, apparently. Head over to the blog if you think you got some acting chops. Or would make good vampire food.
