Film festival darling turned burgeoning Hollywood movie star Brit Martling wasn’t sitting on her heels basking in the glory that was “Another Earth”. She’s already knocked together a new movie called “Sound of my Voice” that, from these two first clips, looks to be quite the mysterious “what the hell is going on here?” type of film. “Sound of my Voice” doesn’t have a trailer yet; instead, it’s released two clips that can be watched back to back for about the fist 3 minutes of the movie. Also, new images. The film played at SXSW last year, and will be making a return trip in 2012 for the fest’s “Festival Favorites” line-up in case you missed it the first time around.
Peter and Lorna, a young Silver Lake couple, delve into the underworld of a cult that meets in the San Fernando valley. At the center of the group is an enigmatic young woman named Maggie who never leaves her basement chamber. The members follow Maggie blindly—growing her food, obsessively sanitizing the house, giving her their own blood for transfusions. But why? We follow Peter and Lorna as they smuggle hidden cameras into Maggie’s basement bent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the members from her spell.
Starring Brit Marling, Christopher Denham, Nicole Vicius, Avery Pohl, Davenia McFadden, and directed by Zal Batmanglij.
Fox Searchlight Pictures will release the film in limited release on April 27th, 2012.
