Looks like Katie Holmes is about to get some company. Two new castmembers, Guy Pearce (“L.A. Confidential”) and Bailee Madison (“Bridge to Terabithia”) have been announced for Troy Nixey’s (hey, nice name!) remake of the 1973 TV movie “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. The film, like the original, will find a young girl who moves into a new home with her father and his girlfriend, only to discover that they are sharing the house with demonic creatures. Man, remember when you could kinda trust your realtors?
THR says chiild actress Madison (pictured top left with Guy Pearce) will play the girl who discovers the creatures and is fascinated by them — that is, until they prove dangerous. Pearce will play her father, an author who doesn’t believe his daughter’s stories about monsters, while Holmes has been set as Pearce’s girlfriend, who does believe the girl, but is unable to convince the dad. He’s stubborn that way, these author types.
Del Toro protege Troy Nixey will direct the supernatural thriller for Miramax, from a script by Del Toro and Matthew Robbins. Shooting is expected to commence in Melbourne, Australia next month, right next door to Del Toro, who will no doubt have his hands full with “The Hobbit” in New Zealand.
