Season three of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is shuffling towards us, not unlike one of the undead walkers that populate the world. It may not be sprinting forward, but with the unceasing, slow and steady pace, they’ll be here before you know it. Two new promo videos have popped up to whet your appetite, and hopefully keep you quivering with anticipation until the show finally arrives.
You may notice that this footage recycled from season two, where one primary character (not to give anything away) buys the farm in a particularly gruesome manner. What it accomplishes is reminding us all of the dark turn the show took towards the end of last the second installment, and that more of the same lies in store.
This second one is the more interesting of the two. You get some new footage of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and company as they work on clearing out the prison that will serve as their home for the foreseeable future. From this look you can see that the interior of this abandoned penal institution is suitably dark and zombie infested.
The closer we get to season three of “The Walking Dead”, the more excited I get for it. They’re moving into grim, brutal territory, they’re bringing in some of the best new characters from Robert Kirkman’s comics, and the potential for incredible awesomeness is through the roof. I’ve been re-reading all of my back issues in preparation, and if the show is even half as gritty as the comics, then we’re in for one hell of a ride.
“The Walking Dead” returns Sunday, October 14th.
