U.S. Trailer for Stephen Chow’s Absolutely Crazy Looking Journey to the West

Stephen Chow, the man behind “Kung Fu Hustle”, doesn’t star in “Journey to the West”, but he did wrote the script and directed it. As a result, it’s kind of like “Kung Fu Hustle”, only with 5,000-times the craziness and from the looks of it, a complete and wanton disregard for common sense. But hey, it’s a movie based on an old Chinese legend, so you know, it’s high fantasy polished up with expensive CGI. Looks entertaining enough, as long as you’re not a stickler for narrative coherence and whatnot.

Check out the U.S. trailer for “Journey to the West”, check it outers.

This is a world plagued by demons, who cause its human inhabitants unspeakable suffering. Young demon hunter Xuan Zang, fearlessly guided by his belief in “giving himself for the greater cause,” risks his all and conquers a water demon, a pig demon and the demon of all demons, Sun Wukong. He embraces them as his disciples, and melts them with love. Meanwhile, Xuan Zang discovers the true meaning of Greater Love himself. In order to atone for their own sins and save the common people, the four of them embark on a journey to the West that’s full of challenges…

Starring Qi Shu, Zhang Wen, Bo Huang, Show Luo, Shing-Cheung Lee, and Bingqiang Chen.

Magnolia Pictures has the film scheduled to open in U.S. theaters next year, March 7th. Chances are you’ll be able to get it before that on VOD.

Interesting. I’d love a serious take on this with a big budget! Guess I’m waiting for the one with Donnie Yen!

I like Stephen Chow. The dude obviously has talent. “Shaolin Soccer” and “Kung Fu Hustle” are two of the most hilarious films ever made and are a lot of fun. I have them both along with “CJ7″ on blu-ray. But Stephen Chow has been pretty quiet since those 3 films. I hope this film doesn’t end up being just a bunch of mess smashed together. I don’t think that big budget mainstream is for Chow. He is too creative and gifted for mainstream junk. Just like how Shyamalan and the Pang Brothers went mainstream and you know those results. Fingers crossed on this one.
