Wow. Remember when you could go into any video store and find 50 titles about no-nonsense guys who could bust heads and bed the ladies, and then bust more heads? Yep. Those were the days. The glorious nineties. Whatever happened to them? Oh yeah, the millennium. Well hell, maybe we’re heading back there with “Weapon”, a new movie starring UFC middleweight champ Rich “Ace” Franklin.

The film will co-star Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Bruce Greenwood. So what’s it about? Says Variety:

In the pic, a U.S. border patrol agent (Thiessen) apprehends a genetically engineered super-soldier (Franklin) but runs into trouble when the soldier’s creator (Greenwood) starts hunting them down.

Kinda sounds a lot like “Solo” with Mario Van Peeples. Or maybe “Universal Soldier” with Jean-Claude Van Damme. Or “Nemesis” with Olivier Grunier. Or “Cyborg 2″ with Angelina Jolie. Yes, Angelina Jolie actually did a movie called “Cyborg 2″ in the nineties. I told you those were great times.

Although I’m not much of a UFC fan (I tend to lean more towards Pride Fighting), I have seen Franklin on a number of talk shows defending the UFC and MMA fighting in general, and he does seem like a very articulate fellow. You know, for a guy who makes a living bashing other guy’s face in. Then again, as long as he knows how to kick and punch, right?
