My curiosity for director Franck Khalfoun’s “Maniac” remake continues to grow the more I read about it. Unlike a lot of horror fans, I don’t have a lot of love for the original. I’m not saying that it’s bad, but it’s not really my thing. Regardless, I think Elijah Wood is an interesting choice as a lead, particularly since it’s hard to see him being mean to anyone. But, I digress.
In order to get everyone in the UK super excited about the film’s upcoming release, the promotional team behind “Maniac” have issued the following poster. It’s an effective piece of artwork, I think, since it tells you so much without giving anything away. Always a nice touch.
Here’s a synopsis:
Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
The UK poster lies below. Although the film opens in select markets on March 15, 2013, it’s unclear when it will get a proper release here in the States.
