Wait, so the werewolves are the good guys, and the vampires are the slave-owning bad guys? Okay, I can buy that. After all, vampires are inherently creepy, what with their pale white skin and scummy Eurotrash sensibilities. That’s pretty much the story of the third “Underworld” movie, “Rise of the Lycans”, a prequel to the last two installments in the franchise. Rhona Mitra steps into Kate Beckinsale’s tight black leather outfit as the hot chick who can kick ass, while Billy Nighy and Michael Sheen reprise their roles from the first two films. And did I mention Kate Beckinsale is a no-show this time around? Trailer below.
The third film in the $200 million UNDERWORLD franchise delves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.
Starring Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Rhona Mitra, Steven Mackintosh, Kevin Grevioux, and directed by Patrick Tatopoulos.
