How’s this for a cool movie premise: once a year, strange creatures from unknown origins known as Grims appear on one specific spot on the planet and go on a rampage that kill thousands, and no one knows who they are or why they do it. Tonight, their target is a small town in America, and it’s up to a father to protect his family from these fiendish creatures of destruction.
Of all the towns in all the world, am I right?
The script for “Grim Night”, by Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey was a hot item last year, when Universal snatched it up in a heated bidding war. Universal has now set German director Dennis Gansel (last year’s female vampire flick “We Are the Night”) to direct for them.
Gansel’s “We are the Night” opened in limited release Stateside last year and followed a Berlin cop who hunts down a trio of female vampires. It was very stylish, as you can see from the trailer below. This will be Gansel’s Hollywood debut.
Marc Platt is producing with Adrienne Biddle and Bryan Bertino of Unbroken Films.
