Universal Hops on Board Ghost Train Comic The Last Call
Hey, how’s this for a neaty mosquito movie idea: two teens on a joyride who get hit by a “ghost train,” which is carrying souls from this dimension to another; they wake up on the train and try to solve a mystery that will allow them to return to their regular lives! Not bad, right? That’s the premise of the comic book “The Last Call”, which THR says Universal has bought and set a writer to turn into a movie.
More on the plot from Oni Press, where you can also get a 38-page preview of the comic book for free:
While out on a midnight drive, two friends, Alec and Sam, are hit by the “Ghost Train,” an inter-dimensional soul carrier. They wake up to discover themselves stuck on the train with no way out and no ticket, which is a problem when the conductor comes around. As they desperately search for an escape, the boys uncover clues that lead them deeper into the train’s musty cabins and into the path of a killer!
The comic, from writer/artist Vasilis Lolos, was published Oni Press. Universal has given the writing gig to Evan Spiliotopoulos, known mostly for animated movies “The Lion King 1 1⁄2″ and “Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie,” but also recently got into adventure stuff with “The Box” for Fox.
This is Oni Press’ fourth project with Universal. Besides “The Last Call”, they’ve got “Scott Pilgrim”, “Leading Man” and “Resurrection” in the pipe.
