Here’s the latest update on the mega-budget Justice League of America movie — basically, you’ve already known everything weeks ago even before you read this Variety article, which basically sums up everything that has been reported in the movie news community weeks and months ago. To wit: George Miller (“Mad Max”) is in negotiations to direct, and Brandon Routh and Christian Bale will not reprise their comic book characters Superman and Batman, respectively. The lack of a notable name in the cast will help with the film’s expected massive budget, since the film can’t help but be special effects intensive. Was there ever any doubt that this thing was going to have green screen work out the wazoo?
More from Variety:
Batman and Superman are active properties for the studio, though the next installment in the “Superman” franchise has taken a backseat to “Justice League” in part because Warners is so keen on the “Justice League” script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.
Beyond the Caped Crusader and Man of Steel, “Justice League” will likely feature Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman. The Green Lantern is also featured in the comicbook.
This project could give the studio a launching pad for future Wonder Woman and the Flash pics.
I’m not a fan of the Martian Manhunter. I could never get into a green alien with a thick forehead. The Flash and Green Lantern, though, are welcome additions. I’ve been dying to see them on the big screen with a Hollywood budget for eons, it seems.
By the way, how funny is it that the “Internet geeks” got all of this right months before the “big guys” even got around to it? Hilarious.
