U.S. Box Office Report: June 3rd, 2007

By Nix | June 3, 2007 (3:38 pm) | More: Industry News

Johnny Depp and those scurvy pirates prove too tough to take down, scoring another $43.2 million over the weekend. Meanwhile, Judd Apatow’s romantic comedy “Knocked Up” surprised just about everyone by taking second place with a $29.3 million take, nearly its production budget, practically guaranteeing that the film will be a big hit, box office receipts return-wise. The romcom, directed by “The 40-year Old Virgin’s” Apatow, stars two little known actors in Katherine Heigl (known mostly for TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy”) and Seth Rogan, who I haven’t even heard of period until now. “Shrek the Third” took the third spot with $26.7 million, while Kevin Costner’s debut as a serial killer in “Mr. Brooks” opened with $10 million, which was not entirely unexpected.

The Top 10 at the U.S. Box Office breaks down like this:

1. “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” $43.2 million.

2. “Knocked Up,” $29.3 million.

3. “Shrek the Third,” $26.7 million.

4. “Mr. Brooks,” $10 million.

5. “Spider-Man 3,” $7.5 million.

6. “Waitress,” $2 million.

7. “Gracie,” $1.4 million.

8. “Bug,” $1.22 million.

9. “28 Weeks Later,” $1.2 million.

10. “Disturbia,” $1.1 million.
