Nu Image and Millennium Films’ much-decried upcoming remake of “Bad Lieutenant” continues to mosy on along with the casting process. With Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes already on board, new names include Val Kilmer and rapper turned actor Xzibit (pictured left, who will be seen in the upcoming “X-Files” sequel, playing, if you can believe it, a fed), as well as Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shawn Hatosy, and Denzel Whitaker. The man responsible is Edward R. Pressman, who produced the original, and is putting his own movie on the chopping block for a remake.
THR has the plot of your original, although not necessarily the remake, as evidenced by the final sentence in this article:
The original followed the depraved adventures of a corrupt policeman (Harvey Keitel) investigating the rape of a nun. The new film will feature Cage as the titular crooked cop and capture the spirit of the original, with the protagonist’s drug intake, accepting sexual favors as bribes and other elements that endeared so many to the 1992 version.
The new film will feature Kilmer as Cage’s partner, while Xzibit will play a villain.
Werner Herzog (“Rescue Dawn”) directs. Scribe Billy Finkelstein wrote the screenplay for the remake, which is being described as “loosely based” on the original story by original director Abel Ferrara and writer Zoe Lund.
Note: The below picture of Val Kilmer has nothing to do with the movie, but it is now my go-to picture for all stories related to Val Kilmer. Why? Because it’s funny, that’s why.
Wait, wait, here we go…
“Bad Lieutenant?” More like … “Fat Lieutenant!”
