Things have been picking up for Jean-Claude Van Damme the past couple years. Emerging out of the semi-obscurity of the direct-to-video market, “JCVD” was a critical darling, and who knew that “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” would be as good as it was? He’s even lending his voice to he upcoming “Kung-Fu Panda: Kaboom of Doom”.
In the best news I’ve heard all day, it appears that Van Damme wants to revisit another earlier role, and is interested in doing a sequal to his 1991 hit “Double Impact”, where he played twins Alex and Chad Wagner. Moviehole reports writer/director Sheldon Lettich, who also collaborated with Van Damme on “Lionheart” and “The Hard Corps”, among others, told a Van Damme fansite, that, though there may be some problems with the rights, and that it is “not a done deal,” they have a great idea for a story. Their proposed plot would
“begin with Chad getting in trouble with a Chinese Triad gang in Los Angeles (which has a huge Chinese population), and Alex having to come from Hong Kong to help him out. Alex, of course, would be a fish-out-of-water, bull-in-a-china-shop in L.A., kind of like “Crocodile Dundee” or like Jackie Chan in RH2.”
I really hope this happens, if not for my own sake, then for Van Damme’s continued career resurgence.
