Vanessa Hudgens Wants a Bite of the New Moon Apple

Word from a “Twilight” castmember is that Vanessa Hudgens has auditioned for a role in the upcoming sequel, “New Moon”. The role in question is that of Leah Clearwater, who is described as a friend of Jacob Black, the much-talked about character of recent weeks. And get this: Leah is supposed to be a werewolf, just like Black. The news arrives courtesy of actress Ashley Greene, who will be reprising her role as Alice Cullen in the upcoming sequel, due out later this year if Summit Entertainment has its way.

With all the “New Moon” casting rumors that have been floating around since “Twilight” hit theaters, we were especially wondering who would play werewolf Leah Clearwater, Jacob Black’s feisty and heartbroken frienemy.

Well, one of the rumored actresses in the running — “High School Musical” starlet Vanessa Hudgens — has apparently taken the next step and auditioned for the role, according to “Twilight” actress Ashley Greene.

We ran into Alice herself at a Golden Globes afterparty, and she told us she’d be happy to co-star with Hudgens. “I think she’d be great,” Greene enthused.

Don’t worry if you don’t know who Vanessa Hudgens is, it just means you’re not a pre-teen and you aren’t addicted to the Disney Channel. Vanessa Hudgens is the female lead of the unfathomably popular “High School Musical” franchise, although netizens might know her more as the formerly innocent Disney child star who sent naked pictures of herself to her boyfriend. Yup. That’s the one.
