Vin Diesel Hints at Starring in a Phase 3 Marvel Movie in 2016

Vin DieselTurns out, when it was officially confirmed that Vin Diesel would be voicing the tree character Groot in James Gunn’s in-production “Guardians of the Galaxy”, that wasn’t actually the job he was famously talking with Marvel about. Groot, apparently, was just something that came up for him to do for now.

Wait, for now? Yes, for now.

According to Diesel, who is never shy about spilling the beans about his future projects, he actually entered talks with Marvel initially to star in a Marvel movie, as part of the company’s Phase 3, around 2016 or thereabouts. He wouldn’t say which character that was, of course, but perhaps that long-rumored Namor movie?

Here’s what Diesel had to say about all this:

When I met with Marvel it wasn’t for anything immediate, it was to talk about a film that would be introduced in the Phase 3 part of Marvel — not for a few years.

He goes on to call this potential project “something so big I can’t even talk about because it’s like the merging of brands in a way which I won’t get into.”

Damn. Should we call it the MarViniverse, then?

So what do you think? What kind of movie or role is Vin Diesel talking about? I’m guessing Marvel may be giving Vin a call soon, since the company just hates it when actors speak out of turn about their dealings, present or future — but especially future.

I’m still thinking Namor (the old style Namor, not the new one with the clothes and such):

    Maybe Captain Mar-vel?

He’d be great for Thanos I’m saying!! Or Absorbing Man! But I have a feeling they want him as a hero, so who really knows. He’d be a decent Ben Grimm, but Fox still owns that. I’m not feeling him as Namor (cause he just looks weird with hair) and Namor’s current look is much better than the green scaley Speedo! LOL. Can’t really think of a hero for him to play that fits his profile. I know everyone says Vision butI just don’t see it. But hey I could be wrong “Brokeback Mountain” clause and all.

I was thinking the same thing! He would make a good Ben Grimm. Maybe the merging of brands that he mentions is a Fox/Marvel crossover with the Fantastic Four and X-Men showing up in it!!! That would be epic! I know that I’m just wishing and hoping here but maybe.

        YES!!! Or just Fox/Marvel period!!

Ok I know techically he isn’t black and this is a touchy subject, but I can totally see him playing Black Panter (or Brown Panther I guess). But he would rock as Thanos.

Wesley snipes is the only person who should play black panther

Please say you’re kidding. Maybe back in the day but not anymore. There are so many better choices for the role. Chadwick Boseman, Edi Gathegi, Omari Hardwick, David Oyelowo, Aldis, Hodge, Chiwetel Ejiofor, just to name a few.

I have to agree with Dedpool. He is too old to play T’Challa. However, and I cannot believe that I have never thought of this before, Snipes would make a great T’Chaka! I always leaned more to the older, stoic actors with a sense of gravitas but Snipes could bring a real presence, especially in any flashbacks showing his prowess as a young king making his name and asserting himself as the rightful ruler of Wakanda!

He’d be decent I think yes, but Honsou should get it just because he can’t be Panther anymore lol!

Snipes for T’Chaka, a relatively unknown for T’Challa and Honsou as Moses Magnum.
