Turns out, when it was officially confirmed that Vin Diesel would be voicing the tree character Groot in James Gunn’s in-production “Guardians of the Galaxy”, that wasn’t actually the job he was famously talking with Marvel about. Groot, apparently, was just something that came up for him to do for now.
Wait, for now? Yes, for now.
According to Diesel, who is never shy about spilling the beans about his future projects, he actually entered talks with Marvel initially to star in a Marvel movie, as part of the company’s Phase 3, around 2016 or thereabouts. He wouldn’t say which character that was, of course, but perhaps that long-rumored Namor movie?
Here’s what Diesel had to say about all this:
When I met with Marvel it wasn’t for anything immediate, it was to talk about a film that would be introduced in the Phase 3 part of Marvel — not for a few years.
He goes on to call this potential project “something so big I can’t even talk about because it’s like the merging of brands in a way which I won’t get into.”
Damn. Should we call it the MarViniverse, then?
So what do you think? What kind of movie or role is Vin Diesel talking about? I’m guessing Marvel may be giving Vin a call soon, since the company just hates it when actors speak out of turn about their dealings, present or future — but especially future.
I’m still thinking Namor (the old style Namor, not the new one with the clothes and such):
