Vin Diesel Releases More Riddick Concept Artwork, Promises an R-Rating

Vin Diesel as RiddickVin Diesel has updated his Facebook page with another concept artwork from his upcoming “Riddick” movie, the third entry in the “Pitch Black”/”Chronicles of Riddick” saga. This will, of course, mean that all three films will have three different titles. Which, if you think about it, sorta makes sense, considering just how erratic the franchise’s personality has been, from little creature feature to a full-blown Intergalactic war flick. The third one, though, promises more of the first.

He also writes to his gazillion Facebook fans:

I hear you…

While I was working on character, the Director and his team of artists have been creating the world and style of this picture. We all know how much I enjoy concept art and storyboards, haha, I am like a kid in a candy shop.

Seeing the early stage of CGI is always fascinating to me, it is a element that usually comes together long after the filming process, so you look forward to seeing it fully realized.

First stop for the Riddick production is Canada, which is where we shot a large part of Chronicles…

P.s. I am grateful to have Universal in such support of this complex character’s journey… not many studios would back an “R” rating. Very cool.

Riddick has definitely seen better days…

While I’m not a big fan of Big V, I do like the Riddick character, if not the movies themselves so much, this little blurb made me laugh. C’mon, “developing the character” and “complex characters journey” is a bit of hyperbole. Riddick is a bunch of cliches put together thats about as complex as kindergarten math.

Let’s not worry so much about the Riddick character, and worry more about putting together a good action movie with out the cheesy one liners.

Vin Diesel has that muscle (no pun intended) that was missing in American Cinema since Schwarzenegger hung it up. I do applaud Christian Bale for his magnificent portrays in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” films; can’t wait for the third film. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also has this charisma. Diesel and Rock had tremendous film presence in “Fast Five”. If Hollywood was smart, they would definitely continue to build on the film rivalry between them. There is a huge area to explore with these actors. I loved “Pitch Black” and liked “The Chronicles Of Riddick”. The third film sounds like it will deliver the goods. Jason Statham is another newer actor that is moving up the ranks very fast. Jet Li and Donnie Yen always deliver. Wesley Snipes has to get back to film making once his legal woes are over. Imagine Snipes vs. Statham in a film. Tony Jaa, Jija Yanin, Tak Sakaguchi and Wu Jing have enormous potential that needs to be explored more as well. Imagine Tony Jaa vs. Wu Jing. Donnie Yen showed me another side of his acting ability as a subdued and complex Ip Man. Sammo Hung shows that he STILL has it with his performances in “Sha Po Lang” and “Ip Man 2″. There are some incredible films to be made with the proper writing, directors and cast. Let’s not forget the elegant, gorgeous and talented Michelle Yeoh; not to mention the gifted and intense Chow Yun Fat. I still want to see Vin Diesel as a “Terminator”.
