Vince Vaughn is The Risk Agent

The Risk Agent Novel CoverVince Vaughn as a badass and master of “combat and culture”? Uh, I guess, why not? That’s why they call it acting, right? Despite his long list of comedies, I’ve always thought that Vaughn, with his size and physicality, could probably do an action role if he put his mind to it. He’ll get his chance on “The Risk Agent”, a novel by Ridley Pearson that Wild West Picture Show Productions has acquired the film rights to, with intentions of turning it into a starring vehicle for Vaughn. It’s essentially a buddy-cop movie, with Vaughn as the “loose cannon” and a Chinese actress as the “by-the-book cop” who has to put up with him. Together, they’re unbeatable! (Or something like that.)

When a Chinese National working for an American-owned construction company is grabbed off the streets of Shanghai in broad daylight and his one-man security detail goes missing as well, the call goes out to Rutherford Risk. That firm specializes in hostage extraction, from negotiation to recovery. Since private investigation is illegal in China, the company recruits two experts. One, Grace Chu, is a female forensic accountant who follows the money, the other, John Knox, is well trained in both combat and culture. They overcome their differing styles to try and get the hostages back before it’s too late.

Vaughn will star and also produce the film through his Wild West shingle. Now all they have to do is find a woman to play the Western-educated, but highly capable Grace Chu.

Vaughn’s got the sci-fi comedy “The Watch” opening this week. Beyond that, lots more comedy. See what I mean? This would be a major detour for him if they go the straight action/suspense route, which from what I’ve read, is what “The Risk Agent” is. Of course, they could always turn it into an action-comedy, so…

Maggie Q will take the role of Grace Chu. Also I hope they tell her to gain 10 lbs.

I say go with Lucy Liu. I just don’t see Vince Vaughn’s lanky self being convincing doing martial arts.
