Visit the Oversized Robot Sets of Pacific Rim in a New Featurette

You know what I like most about Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim”? That it doesn’t seem to be trying to “understand” the Kaiju. They SEEM to be just big ass monsters intent on stomping the crap out of humanity. Why? Who the hell knows. Maybe the film itself will actually delve into the reasons and even manage to make them sympathetic, though God, I hope not. Seriously, I don’t need any political allegories here, please, I just wanna see giant robots stomping the crap out of giant monsters. Is that too much to ask?

Anyways, check out a new, almost 4-minute featurette for “Pacific Rim” titled “Oversized Robot Set”. And yes, it does indeed have oversized robot sets. ACTUAL giant robot heads that del Toro put the actors in. Damn.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee -who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Heather Doerksen, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, and Max Martini.

Stompin’ this July 12, 2013.

Never thought about it, but he’s right! A snug cockpit is too safe for the pilot. At least in Neon Genesis Evangelion, the pilot’s felt each robot part being torn mentally, let’s hope Pacific Rim is like that too!
