A poster for the upcoming Mark Wahlberg/Joaquin Phoenix crime drama “We Own the Night” has surfaced. It’s not what I would go with, but I suppose they’re selling their two main selling points — stars Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix. Although I’m not sure what’s going on with Phoenix’s face. He looks like a 70-year old man about to chase some kids off his yard, or eat them, in the picture. Poor shadowing work there, art folks. Anyways, the movie could end up being really good in the gritty, bloody kind, but I can’t see it garnering too much interest from the general moviegoing populace. There just isn’t any real “hook” to the film.
At the height of a bloody 1980’s struggle between New York city police and a Russian mob that targeted law officers and their families, the NYPD hung “We Own the Night” banners in precinct houses and stepped up their efforts. In the film, a New York nightclub manager (Phoenix) tries to save his brother (Wahlberg) and father (Robert Duvall) from Russian mafia hit men.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Christopher Walken, Eva Mendes, Robert Duvall, Alex Veadov and directed by James Gray.
Avoid the night on October 12th, 2007.
