Wait, They’re Remaking The Shadow Now?

Comic Book Movie News, The Shadow (Remake) Movie — By Nix on January 22, 2009

Huh. I guess I must have been dozing off the day they announced a remake of “The Shadow”, because this MTV story comes as a total shocker to me. Anyways, it appears producer Michael Uslan is intent on bringing the Shadow back to the big screen. The last time the Shadow clouded men’s minds was in 1994, with Alec Baldwin as the Shadow — yes, Alec Baldwin, back when he was still in leading man shape i.e. not a big, sweating fat ass. That movie crashed and burned, although I actually saw it in theaters and liked it. But then again, back in the day if you slapped a superhero on the big screen and gave him Penelope Ann Miller to flash the eye candy, you got my money. I like to think that I’ve since grown up and become more mature, and now you need more than just a superhero, you need, you know, other stuff, too. Like, maybe two Penelope Ann Millers?

Here’s Uslan on his vision for the new Shadow via MTV:

“I think the one thing going in is we all see The Shadow as more of a force of nature than a specific person in a secret identity,” Uslan told MTV in an exclusive interview. “The Shadow may actually be many people.”

“We’ve gone back to the pulp roots, the comic book roots of The Shadow, with a dash of the radio roots,” added Uslan. “But we’ve deeply ensconced ourselves in the world of pulps and comics.”

Uslan says that the planned remake is currently in the writing stages, with Siavash Farahani doing the scripting duties. Once he’s done, Uslan will be teaming up with Sam Raimi to produce the movie for Sony. Yes, Sam Raimi, who is producing 5 out of every 10 new movies coming out of Hollywood nowadays, or at least it seems that way. Never, ever accuse Sam Raimi of not selling his geek cred to the highest bidder like an alleyway crack whore, ladies and gentlemen.

Below: “Who knows what greasy fried chicken taste like at 1:00 in the morning? The Shadow knows! Muahahahaha!”
