Wanna Help Fund a Dragonball Z Movie That, Well, Won’t Suck?

Like most of you reading this now, UK brothers Harry and George Kirby (aka K&K Productions) were not very pleased with the live-action “Dragonball” movie that Fox turned out a few years back. Realizing that they could probably do a much better job, the brothers have started raising funds to produce and shoot a 4-5 minute trailer that they promise will be “packed full of the greatest moments and favourite characters from the Saiyan Saga”.

The hope, of course, is to garner enough interest to fund a full-length version, perhaps even with studio support, similar to what happened with Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy”. Tancharoen funded his own “Mortal Kombat” short film that set the Interwebs on fire and convinced Warner Bros. to fully back a live-action web series. The studio then handed Tancharoen the reins over to an honest-to-goodness feature-length reboot of the franchise.

So yes, it can work.

If you wanna help the boys make this happen, head over here and donate now. Two video diaries of what they plan, including a look at the cast they’ve assembled, below.

I saw this and first scoffed at it. Then is saw the second video and was like, okay, maybe these guys have something. The thing is I doubt these guys can act or anything, but they definitely do have DBZ muscles and are all martial artists. I’m really hoping that they can pull off the trailer, and then maybe move onto a short like the French “Green Hornet” short or the “Batman: Dead End” short by Sandy Collora

How can they do this and NOT get sued….?

As long as they’re not selling it for profit (i.e. turn it into a DVD and selling it), but are just putting the trailer out there, studios don’t usually bother with them, though of course if they wanted to be jerks about it, they could tell them to stop using their property/name/etc.

LOL LOL that was the worst evah. if that is what we can expect dont even bother with the rest.

Did you NOT see the Fox movie? For a low budget and barely done effects that wasn’t bad. I’m not looking for Hollywood quality, just taking the property seriously. The make up on Yamcha’s scars were good, and he looks like Yamcha. The effects could be better but hey, they aren’t done and they aren’t hollywood budgeted.

I don’t think this is going to be as good as Mortal Combat: Legacy, but it looks a bit better than DB: Evolution. More like Dragon Ball anyway.

I also wish these guys the best.

I stand by my claim that the ONLY way to make a good Dragonball movie is to use an animation style, ideally in the same vein as the 2007 Beowulf film, or even something like A Scanner Darkly did.

As a straight-up live-action martial arts film, it doesn’t work. Besides, there’s barely any actual martial arts in the series after a point, so you can’t really translate the feel for anything DBZ and beyond.

I’m 33 years old, and I am game and ready to put my share in this film, and I do have friends and family members that share the same interest in loving the DBZ and DBGT series, know them all by heart. There is only one thing you got wrong. NOT digging the hair of VEGETA, just grow out dudes hair and just stick it straight up with your hands from side the side of the hair, and not just the top. I do have a picture of myself in knowing what I am talking about, because I too train and have my hair similar to the character VEGETA, you wanna see what I am talking about.

If I had a little MORE hair to grow, then it would be PERFECT, don’t use gell or hairspray, use hair wax, and it will hold, that is what I did for mines…
