Eventually Marvel will get an “Iron Man 4” out there (though it’ll be a while yet, they simply have too much going on at the moment), and you’ll see Don Cheadle suit back up as War Machine (or Iron Patriot, or whatever he re-brands himself next) alongside his buddy Iron Man for another rollicking adventure. (Hopefully this time they’ll fight something other than fire-breathing shirtless dudes.)
But you won’t have to wait that long, because War Machine will be popping up in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” before in 2015.
Cheadle’s involvement in the upcoming sequel has now been confirmed by Hitfix, who writes that “Col. Rhodes, aka War Machine, has a key role in the conflict with Ultron that is the main focus of the sequel.”
Hmmm. A “key role”, eh? I hope it’s not the kind of “key role” that Pepper Potts had in the first “Avengers”, which is to say, not much of one at all. Then again, you’ll remember that Cheadle’s Colonel Rhodes is part of the Government, similar to Nick Fury, so his involvement in world-threatening shenanigans are more logical than, say, Joe Blow off the street.
Cheadle, of course, famously replaced the disgruntled Terrence Howard as Rhodes. Last we heard, Howard still hasn’t gotten over that yet.
