The film is “set in the near future, and reinterpret history as a battle between the forces of control. There is the Tabula, which manages society through constant observation, and the Travelers, a nearly extinct group of people who can project their spirit into other dimensions.”
There are three installments, including the sequels “The Dark River” and “The Golden City”.
The trilogy’s author, Hawks, like the protagonists in his novels, is aid to live “off the grid”. No one actually knows his real name or where he lives, which makes the fact that he somehow got his novels published to be quite the feat. Then again, the whole “mysterious author” angle is probably just that — a marketing angle. I could be wrong, of course, and he could be John Connor waiting for Judgement Day and the rise of Skynet.
The books have been published in 25 languages and sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. I’m sure ol John found time to come “off the grid” to spend the money generated from those sales, of course.
