Hollywood has been all up in Warren Ellis’ business lately. The creator of the comics like “Transmetropolitan” and “Planetary” has been busy. His three-issue mini-series “Red”, co-created with Cully Hamner, is a soon to be released movie with a big-name cast that includes Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, and John Malcovich, among other luminaries.
He sat down with MTV and gave an update on “Gravel”, another one of his projects that is being adapted to the big screen.
I’m halfway through ['Gravel'] right now. . . I’m actually writing a new William Gravel story. It’s a horror-action thing in the whole combat-magician mode of those books.
While I haven’t read “Gravel”, I am a fan of Ellis. This time around he is taking a more active role in the development and production. In addition to writing the script, he is going to serve as executive producer for Legendary Pictures.
