You couldn’t go this awards season without seeing the cast and crew of David O. Russell’s based on a true story heist flick “American Hustle” being up for pretty much everything. And deservedly so. The film is a great ensemble piece, with stellar acting work turned in by pretty much the entire cast, from a paunchy Christian Bale to Jennifer Lawrence once again proving how versatile she is. Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper also held their own, as did “The Avengers'” Hawkeye himself, Jeremy Renner.
“American Hustle” was also a bona fide box office winner, pulling in $250 million worldwide from a $40 million budget. Critical darlings don’t usually translate into commercial hits, but David O. Russell’s film proved to be one of the few exceptions. Personally, I think the bell bottoms and ’70s swing had a little something to do with it, but maybe that’s just me.
The movie is now gearing up for its DVD/Blu-ray release this March 18th, 2014, and the studio has released a deleted scene featuring a wild ride through New Jersey’s, er, less-than-spectacular neighborhoods. Watch out for flying things, people!
