Here’s the 10-minute D.C. Showcase short film focusing on Green Arrow, D.C. Comics’ resident emerald archer. Get it now before it’s gone, but then again, you probably already knew that.

The short film is currently available as part of D.C.’s original animated movie “Superman/Batman: Apocalypse”, which is out on DVD and Blu-ray today from Warner Home Video.

This was very well done. The first short to take place in the modern era. I loved GA’s costume. Simply another great addition to the SHowcase Features. Can’t wait for the compilation.

Is it just me or is this the 2nd showcase that was better than the movie it was paired with, I would have much rather seen a full length animated Green Arrow or Jonah Hex than either of the last two dc animated films, they should get away from the big three and give us some other dc heroes like doom patrol and metal men or even a full length phantom stranger

It’s you. LoL. I loved “Crisis on Two Worlds,” “Under The Red Hood” and even “Superman/Batman: Apocalypse,” but yeah I get where you’re coming from on the Big Three angle though. I mean would it kill them to finally do a Flash animated flick, or something truly epic like Kingdom Come or The Dark Knight Returns? Some of your other choices however would be relegated to Showcase short material simply because most people don’t know the characters. I mean they’re making these for the fans but they’re still trying to market to new viewers to a point as well. hard to sell on characters that people don’t recognize. A Nightwing movie would be awesome. The Teen Titans Judas Contract movie woulda been sweet. Sinestro Corps War would ROCK!! A Justice Society flick would also be pretty cool. Start it in WWII and then skip ahead to the present and have the old heroes recruiting predecessors for a mission against someone that killed many of the originals.

I would love a Jsa flick and a blackest night movie would be epic

loved it…really well done. i am so excited that the superhero genre is finally being treated like real entertainment instead of as an afterthought for the kiddies.

      You and me both!

I liked the update on the outfit, ala Smallvile, but if they have the sense to do a revamp on the costume why keep the old fashioned goatee/mustache from the comics. I understand that the character was initially conceptualized from the Erool Flynn Robin Hood style, but come on! An updated gateee/facial hair would re-invogorrate a slightly dated character and cement him as a modern hero.

Because in animation it doesn’t look that bad. It really doesn’t. Andy Diggle, and Jock did a mini series updating his origin, and in it they gave him a normal goatee/mustache look, and for live action real life that would definitely look better, but in animation the Errol Flyn look is just classic and if you can get away with it, go for it.

I guess you have a point. Other than that it was cool. I don’t know a whole lot about Green Arrow but I suppose he dosen’t have much of a rogues gallery. Merlin, another bow and arrow character?!?!?

Well I think every hero needs a mirror image, and Merlyn is his. Except Merlyn’s been at it longer. Count Vertigo is always a mjor villain of his, though he was only barely used here. He’s also got a Deathstroke (as does every street level martial arts hero in DC). Green Arrow: Year One is a very reality based origin story. No super powered villains, nothing over the top. Good story though. I’d really like to see a Batman/Green Arrow or a Green Lantern/Green Arrow flick. The Bats/GA one would be like the “Vertigo” episode of “The Batman” from season five, but PG-13 and with more action, while the GL/GA one would be like the “Hard Traveling Heroes” stories from the late 70’s early 80’s with the two best friends hanging out and running into trouble. I was never really int GA until JLU just made him a great character. Been a fan since.

I have to say, the Showcase was exceptional. Although it seems they use the same studio and anime/animation style. The theatrical versions are different in style. Spectre came in with that 70’s Baretta/Starsky and Hutch look all the way down to the music. Jonah Hex was diffenatly spagetti westerned in theme….Green Arrow to me was very Die Hard 2ish, looking at the hero not being perfect, sometimes clumbsy, but battled with the heart of a true JL hero. GA did what was needed to get his improvised mission done, and with back up from Black Canary, the thing you love about this super duo, they are human with no big guns to back up their value. I will love seeing the extended versions when it is released in November.

As will I. I really love the way they capture the feeling and style so well.
