Watchmen Writer Bringing Deadworld to Big Screen

Comic Book Movie News, Deadworld (2010) Movie, Horror Movie News — By Nix on June 11, 2009

Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean he still doesn’t have feelings. Okay, maybe that’s not true. Or is it? We’ll find out when David Hayter and his Dark Hero shingle puts out the first movie (of a planned franchise, of course) based on the “Deadworld” comic book. As the name may imply, the comic is set in a post-apocalyptic world since overrun by the living dead, aka zombies. Yup, it’s another zombie movie. At this point, this may or may not be the 200th zombie movie currently in production in Hollywood, give or take a couple of hundred.

Says Variety about the would-be franchise:

“Deadworld” veers from the popular zombie mythology of depicting an apocalypse in which humans are overrun by flesh-eating corpses. “Deadworld” picks up four months after that event, where the Dead overtake the Earth, with humans few and far between. Protag is King Zombie, a Harley-riding corpse who holds a grudge against the survivors who made him an outcast.

Hayter, one of the writers on Bryan Singer’s “X-Men” and Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen”, will write the script and produce with Pandemonium’s Bill Mechanic. The idea is to develop the comic book into a possible franchise, with production on the first movie set to start sometime next year, with Hayter attached to do everything from writing to conceiving the look of the movie. Word is he may also cater, but that may be an unsubstantiated rumor.

Below: The leather jacket? Fonzie’s. The skull on the front? Fonzie’s.
