Wayne Kramer Gets Fully Automatic with Lethal Weapon Clone

Since it doesn’t seem very likely that uber producer Joel Silver is ever going to get another “Lethal Weapon” movie off the ground, he’s apparently decided to go another route: just remake the franchise with all-new characters and call it “Fully Automatic”! But instead of going the route of the first “Lethal Weapon” movie, Silver will instead jump right into “Lethal Weapon 3″ and bring in a female love interest who also happens to be a major ass kicker ala Rene Russo in “LW3″. In this case, a former Delta Force operator instead of a cop.

Story follows two rookie cops out to make their mark and who team with a female former Delta Force operative to stop a mercenary who has stolen a cache of weapons.

The most recent draft was written by Marc Wolff. The hope is to get the film into production later this year.

Wayne Kramer, who did the insanely visual “Running Scared”, will be at directing for Silver’s Silver Pictures. Get ready to hear a lot of noise about a franchise and the “T” word (aka trilogy) as the movie ramps up production and the cast starts talking about it.

Speaking of the new characters in “Fully Automatic”, geez, I sure hope one of them isn’t a loose cannon and the other is a by-the-book cop, cause you know, that will cause all kinds of head-butting and general hilarity as stuff blows up real good around them.
