Jackie Chan by himself may not be enough to take down Sarah Marshall and her wacky Hawaiian vacation, or Al Pacino and his goatee (and something about a murder mystery involving young women way too hot for him), but Jackie Chan teaming up with Jet Li? Okay, so maybe they still might not have enough muscle and kung fu moves to take down the spunky and bikini-clad Kristen Bell, but it’s gonna be a tight one at the box office this weekend. Let’s look how they stack up, shall we?
The Forbidden Kingdom
Official Plot: An American teen is is transported back in time to ancient China, where he joins a crew of warriors to help free the king.
FYI: Can Jackie Chan score a hit without a Western funnyman as a sidekick? How about Jet Li? He’s never had a hit. How about the two of them combined?
Starring: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michael Angarano, Liu Yifei, Li Bingbing, Collin Chou
Directed by: Rob Minkoff

FYI: Kristen Bell in a bikini. Mila Kunis all grown up. Hawaii. And did I mention bikinis?

Official Plot: A thriller about a college professor who, while moonlighting as a forensic psychiatrist for the FBI, receives a death threat telling him that he has only 88 minutes to live. In narrowing down possible suspects, he frantically seeks to communicate with a problem student, an ex-girlfriend, and a serial killer on death row.
FYI: It’s already been released on DVD overseas, and has been on the shelf in the U.S. for a while. That’s usually a bad sign.
Starring: Al Pacino, Alicia Witt, Leelee Sobieski, Neal McDonough, Benjamin McKenzie
Directed by: Jon Avnet

And the winner is … “The Forbidden Kingdom”. The combination of a friendly PG-13 rating should help the fantasy kung fu movie overcome “Sarah Marshall’s” R-rated raunchy sex comedy and Al Pacino’s barely-advertised movie.
