Well of COURSE They’re Making a Paranormal Activity 4…

This is a no-brainer, isn’t it? Of course Paramount is making a “Paranormal Activity 4″, which they’ve made official today, announcing the project as part of their 2012 slate.

Combined, the four cheaply made “Paranormal Activity” films, with their “found footage” gimmick and amateur actors, have raked in over $581 million in worldwide box office gross. The first movie, by Oren Peli, was famously made for a paltry $15,000, with the latest, “Paranormal Activity 3″ making the most yet with $202 million worldwide from a $5 million dollar production budget. I’m guessing it probably cost that much only because they had to hunt high and low for those big ol VHS “portable” cameras used in the movie, the film taking place in the ’80s and all.

So when can we expect to see part 4? Halloween 2012 would be my guess, judging by the pattern set by the last two installments. Maybe part 4 can go even further back in time, and we can see someone filming himself while cranking a camera, cause, you know, that’s what you had to do with cameras back “in the day”. Now that would be scary.

I’m a fan of the trilogy to date. They were all similar without being the same and brought some genuine scares while fleshing out the story. I really hope that they don’t jump the shark and try to do a featyre about the demon itself like The Blair Witch 2 did.
