Do you ever get the feeling that a secret organization of extremely unscrupulous people are secretly feeding you misinformation just to see if you’ll take the proverbial bait? A few days ago, everyone and their uncomfortable uncle reported that legendary filmmaker Wes Craven was set to direct the latest installment of the dormant “Scream” franchise, sending legions of genre-obsessed fanboys into weeping fits of unbridled glee. Alas, today is another day, and with it comes a slew of new rumors. Wes Craven, eager to temper the flames of speculation, posted on his Twitter page that he is, in fact, not officially attached to the project, and that negotiations are still underway. What? Are you telling me all of those juicy news items were false? Imagine that.
Personally, I’m not sure if I want another “Scream” movie, especially if Craven isn’t going to helm the production. Regardless, it’s interesting to see the Hollywood Rumor Machine in action. Hopefully something official and accurate will emerge from all of this cinematic silliness so we can all go on with our lives. I’m ready for a good night’s sleep.
