White has a stab at Castlevania

Written by Tom | June 14th, 2007 | 0 Comments |

Castle1Stomp The Yard’s mastermind, Sylvain White has been signed up to direct Castlevania (I love that title!). With the success of his debut, studios have been chasing after this guy, hoping he is the next big thing.

Scripted by Paul W.S. Anderson (”Alien vs. Predator“), the drama begins as a Transylvanian knight leads his men into a gothic castle to seek refuge from the Turkish army. The knights soon discover the castle is controlled by the original vampire.

All we can do is hope that we don’t have another Van Helsing on our hands, but it is good news that Anderson stepped down from directing duties to focus on the writing (wait, didn’t that also happen with Resident Evil: Apocalypse?). The article from Variety does mention that White is a big fan of the series so he will hopefully inject his enthusiasm into the film, but again Anderson claimed he was a big fan of aliens and predators too.

Enough with the negativity for now, as I’m actually really hoping this will be a success. Not only does it have the potential to be a fun ride, but if it makes money, Konami will be forced to push ahead with a Metal Gear movie and cast Josh Holloway as Snake…erm, but that’s just what I think anyway. Castlevania will go into production in the fall, with an expected release date of 2008.
