Roland Emmerich’s upcoming testosterone-driven actioner “White House Down” is adding a little feminine touch in Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is joining Channing Tatum and the just-announced Jamie Foxx on the “Die Hard in the White Houes” movie.
In “White House Down”, Tatum will play a glib, wise-ass Secret Service agent trapped inside the Prez’s residence when bad guys take it over in a brutal attack. As the world watches and waits, it’s up to Tatum to take back the White House, save the President, and possibly, just possibly, keep the world from erupting into World War III.
Gyllenhaal is said to be playing the film’s “female lead”. Since I can only really recall three female characters of note in the script by James Vanderbilt — Tatum’s wildly precocious young daughter, a 10-year old, his estranged (re: bitch) of an ex-wife, and a female Secret Service agent chief who “talks” Tatum’s character through the siege from the Pentagon (aka the Reginald VelJohnson role) — I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Gyllenhaal is playing the female Secret Service agent.
Sony is moving pretty fast on “White House Down”, no doubt hoping to beat the similarly themed “Olympus has Fallen” (with Gerard Butler) to the punch. It appears it’s definitely got the upper hand, despite the fact that Butler has been attached to “Olympus” seemingly forever.
