It’s dead, Jim, stick a fork in it. At least, temporarily. Truth be told, while I maintain my usual “no real interest” in seeing sequels to movies without the original stars, I’m even less inclined to see a sequel to “Point Break”, the movie where Keanu Reeves plays an FBI agent sent undercover to stop Patrick Swayze’s bank-robbing ways. It was a lark of a film, with some cool parts, but overall, mostly forgettable. Of course, that didn’t keep the film from becoming something of a cult hit years later. Or at least, that’s what the people making the sequel tells me.
Talks of a sequel to be set in Indochina, and involving the FBI investigating piracy, surfaced a while back, and we’ve been chronicling it cause what else we got to do? It now looks as if the film has hit a snag, and the actors have been freed to pursue other work. That’s according to Moviehole, who has confirmed the temporary death of the sequel with two “official” sources.
So there you have it, no “Point Break” sequel, at least for the foreseeable future. Can’t say as if I’m sadden. I mean come on, a surfing crime movie without Keanu Reeves? That’s just not rad, yo.
