It’s long been rumored that Irish lass Saoirse Ronan was Joss Whedon’s top choice to play Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlett Witch in Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron”, pairing up with her brother Quicksilver for some shenanigans.
According to the website Bleeding Cool, unnamed sources tell them that Ronan has decided to pass on assembling alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth (among others) in the upcoming sequel, and now the search is on for a replacement.
Whedon’s second choice? Elizabeth Olsen.
Olsen is an interesting pick. She’s obviously a pretty darn good actress, and has shown an ability (and willingness) to mix up her plate with indie jobs and high-profile big-budget studio films ever since she broke through with 2011’s “Silent House”. She currently has roles in “Godzilla” and “Oldboy”, along with a couple of indie films that most of you will probably never see (or even hear about).
Also according to Bleeding Cool, Olsen will have to gin up a European accent for the role, which has reportedly been described as a real “scene stealer”. I’m guessing, though, that if Whedon is looking at casting actresses like Ronan and Olsen, this version of Scarlett Witch won’t look anything like the one one below from the comics.
I could be wrong, of course.
