This is so funny. Will Smith and “I am Legend” producer Akiva Goldsman were in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday promoting the movie, and during a press conference with reporters, Smith inadvertently blurted out the film’s plot, including, apparently, the ending. To which Goldsman was reported to have shouted, “Don’t give away the ending!” This was reported by Reuters, who didn’t mention what “ending” Smith had blurted out, which was nice of them.
It’s been reported previously that “I am Legend” has undergone reshoots for the ending, and I believe it was also reported that director Francis Lawrence made mention there were more than one ending to the film. Lawrence said as much to Sci Fi Wire:
Francis Lawrence … told SCI FI Wire that he reshot the film’s ending recently and changed it. “I don’t want to actually discuss the ending, just because I don’t want, I want people to make up their own minds, but maybe there’ll be an alternate version at some point,” Lawrence said in an interview after a news conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., last week.
And since the film’s writer is already going around pitching the idea of an “I am Legend 2″, I am guessing that Will Smith’s character will survive the end of the movie.
Or will he? Who is to say “I am Legend 2″ couldn’t be made without Smith? It is the apocalypse, after all, so another survivor could step up to take over the focus…
Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague — The Infected — lurk in the shadows… watching Neville’s every move… waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered… and quickly running out of time.
