Will Smith is the Fresh Pharaoh of Egypt

The Last Pharaoh Movie — By Nix on September 8, 2008

From the Fresh Prince of Bel-air to the Fresh Pharaoh of Egypt circa 677 B.C.? Most definitely. In today’s Hollywood, what Will Smith wants, Will Smith gets. Heck, if Will Smith says he eats babies for breakfast because it helps to keep his teeth shiny on camera, we’d all offer him our first born to feed on. Yes, Will Smith is that powerful all around the world. Or maybe just America. Okay, he’s pretty much just powerful in that small section of California where they make movies and what have you. Anyways, Will Smith’s latest endeavor is something of a dream project — playing Taharqa in “The Last Pharaoh”.

Variety reports:

“Braveheart” scribe Randall Wallace will write “The Last Pharaoh,” a Columbia drama crafted as a vehicle for Smith to play Taharqa, the pharaoh who battled Assyrian invaders in ancient Egypt.

Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz will produce for Overbrook Entertainment.

Smith, who has long wanted to play the pharaoh, brought Wallace the Taharqa story.

The film will focus on his battles with Assyrian leader Esarhaddon starting in 677 B.C.

Pharaohs were worshiped in Ancient Egypt as Gods, and because Will Smith has always wanted to play this role, we can reasonably infer that Will Smith secretly thinks he’s a God. (Thank you, one C-minus semester of psychology!) Now he might have gotten away with that after “Men in Black”, but after the abomination that was the second half of “I am Legend”, he best rethink that notion.

Below: When told that Ancient Egyptians didn’t have handguns, Will Smith immediately demanded script changes — or else.
