Will Smith has some choices to make. Big Willy is currently mulling over two possible films — starring in the supernatural thriller “Selling Time”, or signing up for Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day” sequels. Both are for Fox.
To hear Emmerich tell it, he’s ready to move on the sci-fi sequel with or without Smith. The master of destruction, coming off the less than spectacular box office of “White House Down”, tells The Playlist that he has not one, but two completed scripts for “Independence Day 2” ready to go.
So why two scripts? They’re the same story, but one features Will Smith in the lead, and the other doesn’t involve Smith’s character from the original at all, so depending on what Smith decides, Emmerich is ready to move on the sequel, and soon. Fox currently has “ID4 2” slated to be release on July 3, 2015.
To hear Emmerich tell it, though, he thinks it’s a pretty good bet that Smith might join the fun after all.
Meanwhile, Smith has another Fox project on top, a supernatural thriller called “Selling Time” that he’s already “attached” to, though apparently there are no deals in place, reports The Wrap.
In the film, Smith would play “a man who is given a chance to relive the worst day of his life in exchange for seven years off his life expectancy.”
Personally, I’d like to see Smith return for the “ID4” sequel. That movie just won’t be the same without him. After all, without Big Willy, who will say “Hi” to all those invadin’ aliens?
