According to AICN, that’s an affirmative: although there have been no official confirmation from the cast, crew, or studio (AICN expects that very soon), the word around town is that Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass in “Kick Ass”) has been cast as Young Cyclops in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming stab at mainstream superhero glory, “X-Men: First Class”.
This is interesting casting, though I’m not sure how it’ll work, exactly: Johnson is already 20, and James McAvoy, who will be playing Professor X, is only 31. Unless, of course, they save Cyclops for the Third Act, when McAvoy’s Professor X is no longer so young anymore, and is already in a chair, since I’m pretty sure Johnson has about half a foot on the short McAvoy.
Still, if you’re going to trace the origins of Professor X, Magneto, and the White Queen, why the rush to re-introduce younger versions of the “X-Men” students at all? Introducing “Beast” works, because Hank McCoy has always been older than the rest of the X-Men, but the rest of the X-Men should be tykes during this stage and hidden in the background. This should be about the adults, not the kids. That’s what sequels are for…
