Williamson Confirms Neve Campbell Declined New Scream Trilogy

Horror Movie News, Scream 4 (2010) Movie — By Nix on June 21, 2009

He tweeted it, then he deleted it. So what’s up with Kevin Williamson saying (or did he?) that Neve Campbell would not be returning for a string of new “Scream” movies, and he was now forced to think of a way to re-introduce the franchise without the pivotal Sidney Prescott character? Was it because Williamson was offering her nothing more than a cameo? Not so, says Williamson, who emailed the NYPost to clear up all the Neve Campbell rumors. Alas, Sidney Prescott fans, it ain’t a rumor. Campbell really has passed on the movie.

Williamson tells the NYPost’s PopWrap column:

“I’ve had numerous conversations with Neve. She’s a friend. Nicest girl on the planet. It just ain’t workin’ out and it sucks for me. It was no cameo. I’d never play Sid out that way. :) And I ain’t got no Sid-less scenario. So, I don’t know yet what to do. Hate all the wrong info circulating. My fault. There’s a learning curve with Twitter. I gotta watch it. :) kev”

Looks like without Campbell, the new “Scream” trilogy will have to wait as Williamson tries to re-invent his, er, re-invention. Who knew the monkey wrench in the new trilogy would be, of all people, Neve Campbell? Given that her career has moved very specifically off the Hollywood A-list track, you’d think Campbell would jump at the chance to reprise the Sidney Prescott role. Then again, I kinda even admire Campbell for leaving her scream queen days behind her. It’s not gonna help her movie career any, but you gotta admire integrity, especially in a place like Hollywood.

Below: “Aw, I hope it wasn’t something I said. Or, er, tried to do the last three times we met.”
