Wolverine News: Deadpool, Scarred Toy, Weapon XI, WTF?

Comic Book Movie News, X-Men Origins: Deadpool Movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Movie — By Nix on March 6, 2009

Okay, I admit it, I haven’t really been keeping up with all the “Wolverine” stuff. I mean, sure, I’ve posted all the trailers, the posters, the images, and the clips, but I seem to have neglected the toys. Or else I would have seen and heard about this controversy where a Deadpool toy surfaced looking, er, shall we say, pretty messed up (pictured). So what’s the deal with that? Is that Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool in the movie? MAJOR SPOILERS AHOY.

The guys at Topless Robot says they know what’s up with the scarred Deadpool toy/Ryan Reynolds hullabaloo. Here’s what they got from an inside source who emailed them (which means I have no proof this is real, but this is what they said, so take it for what it is):

• Ryan Reynolds shows up for 10 minutes in the beginning of the film. He’s part of Stryker’s team, and his mutant ability is mostly being a badass with swords, cutting bullets and the like. He is called Wade Wilson during this period.
• Stryker’s big plan (or one of ‘em) is to make Weapon XI, a mutant with a shit-ton of mutant powers.
• Stryker uses Wilson’s body as the mutant power receptacle, and because of the scarring (I’m not sure whether that’s from a previous fight, or as a result of all the mutant powers getting packed into him), Weapon XI is played by Scott Adkins. Weapon XI appears for about ten minutes near the film’s end, and has the claws seen above (a la Wolverine), Cyclops’ optic blast, Wraith’s teleportation ability, and Wolverine’s healing factor, too. Also, his mouth is indeed sewn shut.
• Just like Weapon X is given the name “Wolverine,” Weapon XI is given the name “Deadpool.”

So there you have it. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool for 10 minutes at the beginning of the film, disappears, and then Deadpool aka Weapon XI returns for the film’s final 10 minutes, but this time played by Scott Adkins.

So, er, how are they going to spin this off into a Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds if Reynolds is no longer Deadpool at the end of the film?

One word: Prequel.

Below: “So wait, I’m only in this thing for 10 minutes? Lame.”

Another epic Fox failure. It would be difficult for him to be the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ if his mouth is sewn shut.

Yeah, it’s true they fucked up, but, for those optimists (like me) out there, there’s still hope to salvage the story.

Deadpool’s “experimental” time in weapon X was traumatic, and after they finished with him, they flushed him off to Department K, an offshoot from Weapon X to be experimented on even more by Doc Killebrew. Since his history is cloudy, it shouldn’t be a huge stretch to imagine that they experimented with the removal of mutant powers and adamantium skeletal bondage, but allowing him to keep his healing factor in order to survive the ordeal for future experimentation.

Still, I remain skeptical. I advise all Deadpool fans to remain pissed off, even if this is a legitimate possibility. Shoot down my idea as you all see fit.

    • if uwatch da movie dumb azzu will see

      Spoilers

If you watch the end of the movie, after the credits, Deadpool is seen with the blades retracting back into his body. He then grabs his head, which was cut off, only to have it look at the crowd(with his mouth looking as if the stitches were ripped out) and say “Shhhh”. This is breaking the fourth wall and could possibly mean he doesn’t have his powers since during the movie they state that the bonding process wasn’t completed yet, ergo getting his head cut off removes the abilites.

Hmmm… we get alot of these news bits from ‘inside sources’… I know how wrong they’ve been in the past, so I ain’t gonna start believing them now…

I mean, even the previews and the trailer seems to indicate that there is much more than 10 minutes of deadpool… Idk, I’m squarely neutral about this film, but I think this news bit is bullsh*t.

    • Chris says:

Yea so ive seen the movie… and well, as “deadpool” he is only in the movie like 15 mins for the final fight between Wolverine and Deadpool and eventually Sabertooth jumps in to help wolverine… finally wolverine cuts off deadpools head and his body and head fall into a nuclear power plant smoke stack thing and his “optic beam” is going off randomly cutting holes in everything. The end. Movies really fun to watch if you’re not a really really big hardcore X-men fanboy.

  • xino says:

Bull! About he only appears for 10mins.

What about the part he said, “let me kill him”. They were supposed to be hunting for Wolverine.

Another part, basically the begining, Stryker gathering the team.

Another part, he was using his sword to deflect bullets.

I don’t know much about Deadpool, Weapon X, Weapon XI or their comical versions. But Weapon XI being Deadpool, doesn’t sound right and looks like the producers messed up the story. A lot of fans will be pissed off by this.

    The Merc WITHOUT a Mouth?

    wow.
    damn you, fox.

  • Feldman says:

OK. Deadpool’s only power is the healing factor he got from Wolverine. I have a hard time believing marvel would sign off on Deadpool becoming a cross between all of the mutants involved in the experiments. If they did screw this up everyone who has ever heard of Deadpool is going to be pissed

  • Dedpool3678 says:

I really hope this isn’t true. How do you completely change such a beloved character, and make him the antithesis of what people love about him. If it’s true at least we’ll get to see Ryan Reynolds playing the Wade Wilson we know and love before they completely mess him up. In the meantime get your Deadpool fix with Hulk Vs.. Nolan North does a spot on Deadpool in the Hulk Vs. Wolverine segment that had me in tears and soo happy. Now all this has gotten me scared and depressed. I swear if Fox messed this up they arent getting jack from me ever again!!!

  • Weapon X says:

actually they already announced that he will only be weapon XI for ten minutes. he will shed his other mutant implants, keep the healing, and get the scars, with a mouth

  • nory says:

Ya, i saw the movie and it wasnt too god. HIGHLY UPSET. Not a very good movie at all in my opinion. They made Deadpool look SO lame. Very upsetting

  • nory says:

The movie moved way to fast and it felt like alot of things were being dismissed. Seemed like they were in a rush to get it over with. 1/5 stars and only 1 star because its wolverine. I love xmen and marvel in general. they didnt do any of the characters in this movie jusitce at all. go see for yourself though. you will probably be just as upset as i was after watching.

  • Hemmy says:

If they ruin deadpool, I will be PISSED beyond belief! They might be leading to believe Deadpool is ruined but bring him back as the guy we all love in the second Origin movie….
